I finally made my way to Middle School and I love it! I don’t remember enjoying the (junior high) experience the last time
around, but it’s possible it is more fun when you are an adult. I became the library media specialist at Blanchard Middle School in Westford in August 2012, but have worked in elementary school libraries (Waltham and Groton) for 8 years, and high school (part-time) for 1. My first career was as a computer design engineer (for 13 years) and I retain more than a little technology geekiness.
I am passionate about helping youth grow into responsible and productive global citizens.
I believe learning is a lifelong adventure that is most successful when you have the skills to efficiently gather, evaluate and organize information so you can build your own knowledge and understanding.
I believe we all need to be wise 'producers' of information; able to effectively and respectfully communicate our ideas via a variety of modes.
I believe in the importance of professional learning communities; groups of individuals who share a common interest and who, though discussions online or in person, provide feedback, tips and support for each other.
I believe collaboration is the key to success; we can do amazing things when multiple people tackle the same problem from different angles, using their own special talent and unique perspectives.
My goal is to help students develop these skills in a kid-friendly environment where experimentation is encouraged and research projects are engaging and rewarding.
I live in Groton, MA with my husband, Bill and sons, Keaton, 19 , a computer systems engineering major at Rensselaer in Troy, NY and Milo, 17, a student at Parker Charter Essential School in Devens, MA.
I have an MLIS from Simmons (2009), a BSEE from Cornell and K-12 licensure in both Library and Instructional Technology.
